— Training Exercise —
Bureau 26
For the attention of: Junior Codebreaker
Summary: A substitution cipher has been applied to a grid of interlocking English words. Every cell shows a number — each number represents a fixed letter of the alphabet. Three letters have been decoded as a starter key.
Task: Use the starter key and your knowledge of English to identify each remaining letter. When a number's letter is known, every cell with that number takes the same letter. Every row and column of white squares must read as real English words (across and down).
Hint: look for short words first. The alphabet tracker on the right will tell you which letters you have not yet assigned.
